MEET THE CEO
With the creation of Wondery in 2016, there was one goal in mind: fill every women with enough confidence to take on any outdoor adventure. In an industry dominated by men, the outdoor adventure world can be an intimidating place for women. We’ve accepted the challenge to break down those barriers and liberate women in the outdoors. With such a daunting goal in mind, it takes a very special type of person to lead the charge.
Filled with a vision, creativity, and passion, we’re so excited to introduce you to our trailblazing CEO, Kimberley Esliza.
"Empowering others helps me also empower myself - I see so much strength in the women around me."
As one of the people who has been with Wondery since the beginning, Kimberley started her journey in the fulfillment department packaging orders. While working in fulfillment, she was unable to hide her creativity or the ideas that she had for bettering the company. It wasn’t long until her talent was noticed and she was quickly promoted to Creative Director, Director of Development, and five short years later, CEO. Her hard work and driven attitude has proven to be a pivotal role in the success of Wondery.
Entering into the role of CEO, what do you plan to accomplish? How will you put these goals into action?
I have a whole list of goals to accomplish. The first thing that comes to mind is building and strengthening our community. A lot of outdoor activities are curated to men so not enough encouragement goes towards women participating in these same activities. It warms my heart seeing a lot more women surfing, skating, climbing, backpacking etc., which is something that I’m passionate about strengthening.
Wondery has many different initiatives in progress that are aimed towards further empowering women in the outdoors. Can you tell us about some of these initiatives?
Our goal has been to build community, we had this vision of hosting events and getting women together to empower one another. That’s when COVID hit and put these plans on pause. We then took the approach to build this community with our Wander Women Ambassador Program over Zoom, so that when it’s safe to do so, we’re able to hold in-person events with an already established community. We’re currently in the planning stages of our event calendar. We’re excited to be training our own employees to become certified guides for the various events that we hold, only furthering our connection to our community.
What inspires you to make the outdoors and Wondery more diverse?
As a minority woman, I have faced discrimination, not just in this industry. It makes you feel more inspired to make a change, as I wouldn’t want someone else to feel the way that I do. Though it’s unfortunate to relate to other people through a negative aspect of society, we’re able to come together as a more forceful voice for change.
Within Wondery, I see us as a very diverse circle of individuals. You learn a lot about everyone’s culture and morals which adds a level of awareness to various social aspects as we conduct business. We’ve recognized how important it is to represent diversity and inclusivity throughout all aspects of our business. From including different sizes and races of models, to being sensitive about our designs and advertising, we work hard to realize our vision of empowering all women in the outdoors.
What does Wondery’s mission mean to you?
I deeply relate with empowering women in the outdoors. Growing up, I was always scared to adventure because I was worried about getting lost or hurt. I want to show others that it’s okay to be scared of pushing your boundaries and getting outdoors. There’s a strong community looking to support you in any adventure you decide to embark on. Empowering others helps me also empower myself, as I see so much strength in the women around me.

What is the inspiration behind Wondery’s mission?
I remember asking Wayne Borromeo, the founder and current CMO of Wondery, why he started a womxns empowerment company. He was deeply inspired by the strength of his mom and sister who fearlessly embarked on outdoor adventures. Two very powerful women empowered him to get outdoors. Knowing that this empowerment should be shared, we both felt strongly about creating a company that could foster the adventurous spirit within all womxn.

What is your ultimate goal for Wondery?
We’re a very in-the-moment company, with a large vision. I ultimately see Wondery becoming the go-to outdoor apparel company for women. To lead up to that however, is to build a strong community by empowering our ambassadors and other women to empower each other and encourage one another to be present in the outdoor community.
I am ready for Wondery to be the most badass group of women there is and ever will be. I'm beyond excited for what's to come.
